Lead: Fairfax, VA ~ NOVA ScriptsCentral, in conjunction with Eli Lilly, will have bulk donation  insulin pens available for the first time in the Northern Virginia area helping fight diabetes in lower income communities by adding an essential second option.

Lilly, a leading biopharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis, is providing bulk donations of insulin KwikPens® ( Humalog, Humalog 75/25 & Basaglar) to NOVA ScriptsCentral  through Direct Relief. In 2018 NOVA ScriptsCentral (NSC) was selected by Lilly to be one of the first pilot sites in the country through Direct Relief to receive bulk insulin vial donations, NOVA ScriptsCentral has been dispensing Lilly insulin vial products to its patients. This gave patients who are not eligible for pharma patient assistance programs access to much needed insulin.

Many of the patients NSC serves are the working poor who work multiple jobs and suffer from a variety of medical conditions, one of which is diabetes. They struggle with managing traditional insulin vial regimens because of their hectic work schedules which make it difficult for them to administer their insulin doses. NSC can now offer a 30 – 90 days supply of insulin KwikPens® prescriptions to patients for $5 through multiple partner clinics across Northern Virginia. By now having access this will allow these individuals more flexibility to administer insulin doses while balancing their work schedules.

Lilly is the first insulin manufacturer to make insulin pens available through a bulk donation program adding to their established offering of insulin vials. Lilly announced in January it will donate 200,000 KwikPens to relief over the next three years.

Executive Director of NOVA ScriptsCentral Donney John said: “As an organization specifically built to aid people struggling to pay for their medication, it is an incredible opportunity to work with Lilly to bring insulin to those struggling with diabetes and the means to fight it.. With the insulin KwikPens we will be able to help considerably more people by providing the option between pen and vial. We cannot express how much of a difference this will make in our efforts to help people fight diabetes.”

“Lilly is committed to providing affordable insulin to people who need it – including through our donations to relief agencies that supply free clinics across the U.S.,” said Andy Vicari, senior director, insulins, Lilly and Company. “NOVA ScriptsCentral does a great job reaching people living with diabetes who need help, some of whom may have run out of options. With their help, more people are accessing the insulin they need.”
