Efficacy and Safety of Use of the Fasting Algorithm for Singaporeans With Type 2 Diabetes (FAST) During Ramadan: A Prospective, Multicenter, Randomized Controlled Trial:

A multi-disciplinary team of clinicians developed an empowerment-based collaborative clinical tool called the Fasting Algorithm for Singaporeans with Type 2 Diabetes (FAST). Researchers found that the FAST clinical decision tool showed 4 times the efficacy in controlling blood glucose levels and was safer compared to the current non-standardized care for managing Muslim individuals with type 2 diabetes who fast during Ramadan. In addition, use of the FAST tool resulted in sustained improvement of FBG level even 3 months after Ramadan. A standardized tool for healthcare providers to manage patients with diabetes who choose to fast during the month of Ramadan.
